A Few Sad Weeks

We didn’t have too much on our calendar for the time we would be home before leaving once again!  We both had PT on Monday.  It was my last unless I feel my shoulder isn't quite where it needs to be.  So far, so good.

We played cards and I won!  At $1 ante for the night and 30 cents per hand betting, it is not a lot to get excited about!

I did get my driver license renewed.  My only problem was trying to check in but it wouldn’t read my QR code … because I was one minute early!!  It didn’t take long, no driver test and my eye test was reading 5 letters off  a card about 10 feet await.  No restrictions on my license!  

We flew to Cincinnati on Saturday and decided to change our seats home to Comfort Plus!  Ted sits behind me so no one leans into him but I could feel his knees in my back everytime he moved.  Enough is enough!

We picked up our rental car and drove to Hampton Inn to check in.  Terry and Carol were at a Marriott a few exits down.  We picked them up for dinner at Skyline chili!!

Sunday we went to St. Williams, the Rogers’ family church, for Mass.  Afterwards we went to a local restaurant to enjoy goetta for breakfast.  You will find this breakfast meat only in Cincinnati and a few spots across the state line into Indiana.  We used the time before going to niece Jamie’s to get Cincinnati chili packets for our friends and turtle soup for me!  

About 60 folks gathered at the Singler’s beautiful house with an outstanding yard!  Such lovely irises in bloom and grass as green as Ireland.  We stayed until about 9:00 before heading back to the hotels.  We did all the driving, Terry was not feeling very well.  

Monday was the funeral Mass at St. William’s  There had to be at least 300 persons present. Fr. Terry Keehan, cousin to the Rogers, officiated at one of the most beautiful ceremonies ever.

Five of the six surviving Rogers children.  Kathy, Terry, Ted, Kevin and Peg.  Tom is 87 and in care in Phoenix and Tim died in 2006 or 2007.  And now Dan has joined him!  

The Rogers kids and spouses.  Dan requested everyone dress for Margaritaville!  I chose to wear purple for Elder High School.  Ted remained neutral.  

The Rogers columbarium at Our Lady of Victory cemetery.  So far 7 of us have spots and there are only 3 left! 

The interment was at noon on Tuesday for immediate family.  Afterwards, 12 in all, had lunch at Cabana’s on the River.  It was a melancholy time but we are grateful for each other and the lives we have all lived thanks to their parents, Betty and Les Rogers who raised children, 8 in all, who have stayed married from 50-66 years with no divorces.  What a wonderful example they set. 

We flew home Wednesday in much more comfortable seats on United.
