Our Last Few Days

Sunday we toured the City of Milwaukee, a train car ferry that held 34 boxcars. They transferred from rails that led right up to the hold and were pushed in, and later pulled out by engines, when they reached the opposite side of the lake.  That created a much shorter and faster route from Michigan to Wisconsin.  It is docked in Manistee as a museum.

We toured from top to bottom, from the engines to the bridge.  You can spend a night in the senior officers’ quarters.

Docked next to.the City of Milwaukee is the USCG Acacia, a buoy tender.  It also was used for ice breaking, search and rescue, fire fighting and logistics.
